| WELCOME | | "Sometimes surely, truth is closer to imagination or to intelligence, to love than to fact? To be accurate is not to be right." |
| -- Shirley Hazzard | In 1860 the art critic Theophile Thore wrote "Everything takes or gives something around itself, altering its surroundings as well as itself with irresistible persistence. Everything communicates with everything else and participates in the unity of life. There is no nature morte (still life)."
Diane's paintings explore those transforming connections in our everyday world and seek to convey the beauty in those relationships. She paints from life, either landscapes out of doors (en plein air); or still life, referencing collections of objects with personal significance composed in the studio or set up outside in natural light. Her larger landscapes are inspired by field studies in oil and sketches done on location. In this way Diane May attempts to remain as close as possible to her original inspiration. |
